All classes are structured but also informal and fun, I have great bunches of people in all classes who all benefit from the group dynamics as well as me as teacher/facilitator. I aim to provide sessions that are a mix of technical and exact, to a bit whacky – and lots in between, all are challenging, with support. I cannot bring the land or sea in to the classroom, but all my teaching is totally transferable to your particular interest. I encourage you to look carefully at what it is you are interested in and pursue your own style and work. I have a mix of people and often teach 2, maybe 3, groups in one session – in keeping with your level. Individual attention is given to everyone. Classes run term times throughout the year. All classes payable in blocks of a term, £12 per 2 hour session. £20 deposit required, the remainder is due by the start of term. You are welcome to join at anytime if I have space, prices would be pro-rata. If you would like to join a class I also send out a suggested materials list.
Techniques and basics are my key starting points for everyone, this then allows you to move on to more complex / weird / playful / challenging work that becomes very much your own. Drawing is key – (I can teach you to draw if you don’t think you can), from then you will use colour – pencils, pastels, paint, (initially watercolour but I also encourage acrylics and oils). We look at colour theory, composition, abstraction, collage, mixed media etc. The classes flow from one to the next. I always consider individual needs and a suitable pace for each student. I teach techniques but not style, the style I want you to create is your own, and I will encourage, challenge and help you. My still lifes are as varied as I can make them, but please bring your own if you so choose. If there is anything YOU want to do, please tell me and I will tutor you in your own work, I cannot bring the landscape in to the classroom, for example, but that does not stop you working with landscapes as your subject.
