Watercolours: Level 2. Tuesday 25 June. Bovey Tracey

Watercolour is a very special medium – the beauty of the colours, the translucency and happenstance make for a very beautiful way of painting. This workshop is for those who have either participated in my Watercolour: An Introduction workshop or who have a little experience and would like to know more. We will look at techniques, brush use, colour theory, washes, composition and more.

I am a professional artist and qualified teacher and coach, with 13 years experience teaching art to adults – from beginners to advanced. My desire has always been to encourage and push people’s own style, not to copy mine, I have a knack of being able to see a students interest and patterns often before they do.

This workshop is for those with a little/some experience.

Costs and numbers:
3 hours.
£40 per student.
Maximum students – 10.
Adult.

What to bring:
3 Watercolours in tubes ‘Professional’ is best (NOT ‘Students’)
1) Magenta or Rose Madder, 2) A bright Lemon Yellow and 3) Prussian or Phthalo Blue (green shade preferably).

Please don't buy cheap paints, they have a lot of white filler in them that produce dull colours. The makes don’t matter, it is the quality, but Daler Rowney, Winsor and Newtwon, Senneliere are all good, and have differing ranges. Avoid students or cheap paint.

A4 watercolour pad – minimum 140lbs/300gsm. Slightly textured (Cold Pressed)
2 water pots, food tins are good.
2-3 watercolour brushes of your choice. Go larger than small. Preferably sable, but can be man made.
Kitchen roll.
A large white metal plate with a lip as a palette. Ceramic is ok, but NOT plastic.

Where to buy:
Trago do a good selection of paper pads and may do the paints. Likewise Hobby Craft. Any art shop (but there are few these days). Online: Jacksons are good: https://www.jacksonsart.com/)

All I advise is buy the best you can afford, in paints, paper and brushes.
