Jane’s 2015 and 2016 work is all based on her life in South Devon, on Dartmoor or at the coast. She feels fortunate enough to live near Dartmoor, and this year and last has drawn a lot as she walks, springer dog Beano in tow. She will sit for a couple of hours sometimes and get lost in the landscape as she tries to capture some of the atmosphere of it. she doesn’t paint outside, she has tried it, but for Jane she needs to distill the experience, take her work back to her studio, where she will (eventually) turn her thoughts in to works on paper or canvas. Jane always work on several paintings at once, moving between them as she gets to a point where she doesn’t know what to do next. Often they are then finished. Jane has been experimenting with colour and mediums. She love oils, but also watercolours and water based printing inks.
